Peskov: Russia can fulfill liabilities, no reason for default
MOSCOW, Apr 11 (PRIME) -- There is no reason for a Russian default because the country can fulfill all of its liabilities, President Vladimir Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday.
“This can only be an artificial default, (Finance) Minister (Anton) Siluanov has said that before,” he said.
“There are definitely no objective reasons for this default to happen. Russia has enough potential to fulfill all of its liabilities, but the non-constructive position of our opponents may worsen the situation.”
On April 9, international rating agency S&P Global Ratings downgraded long-term and short-term credit ratings of Russia in foreign currency to SD (selective default) from CC and C.
